Redwing in Rainier Beach Has Vegan on Demand

An adorable cozy new café opened up last year in Old Town Rainier Beach, one of my favorite Seattle neighborhoods, but one that most people don’t trek to for vegan grub. South of Seward Park, but north of Skyway, Redwing Café sits just off of Rainier Avenue on 57th along with other adorable neighborhood spots like Judes Old Town bar, Rainier Dance Center, Nate’s Wings & Waffles (not vegan at all btw) and more.

Locally owned by wife-husband duo Su Harambe and Anthony Campbell, Redwing serves all vegetarian food with plenty of vegan options. All of their food is prepared daily in house – the soups are always vegan, they have vegan salad and sandwich options, and at least a couple of vegan treats in the pastry case. And for your coffee, they offer almond and hemp, in addition to soy. The atmosphere is special with a ton of heart and thoughtfulness in the design.

Like all good neighborhood cafes, this joint also has rotating art for patrons to enjoy. So if you live anywhere near Rainier Beach, you clearly need to make this your new spot. If you are on your way south for any reason, I highly recommend skipping I-5 and taking Rainier Ave the whole way so you can stop by Redwing and enjoy a neighborhood you might not usually visit. Seattle is a special town, and I think most of its charm can be found outside of the downtown/Capitol Hill area, in the places usually only locals go.
